CERAKOTE
How it works!
Cerakoting is a specialized coating process designed to enhance the durability, performance, and aesthetics of various surfaces, particularly firearms and metal components. This innovative technique involves applying a thin layer of ceramic-based material onto the surface, providing excellent protection against wear, corrosion, and harsh environmental conditions. Cerakote coatings come in a wide range of colors and finishes, allowing for customization and personalization of items while ensuring long-lasting protection and improved functionality.
How it’s done!
The process begins with thorough preparation of the surface to be coated. This involves cleaning the item to remove any dirt, oil, or debris that could affect adhesion. Additionally, any existing coatings or finishes are stripped away to ensure a clean surface for the cerakote application.
Sandblasting: After preparation, the surface is sandblasted to create a rough texture that promotes better adhesion of the cerakote. Sandblasting also removes any remaining contaminants and provides a uniform surface for the coating.
Masking: Certain parts of the item may need to be masked off to protect them from the cerakote application. This ensures that only the desired areas are coated.
Mixing the Cerakote: The cerakote material is carefully mixed according to manufacturer specifications. This ensures consistency and proper application of the coating.
Spraying: Using specialized equipment, the cerakote is applied evenly to the surface of the item. The coating is applied in thin layers to achieve the desired thickness and finish.
Curing: After the cerakote has been applied, the item is cured in a controlled environment, typically using heat. This process helps the cerakote material bond to the surface and achieve its maximum durability and performance properties.
Quality Control: Once cured, the coated item undergoes thorough quality control inspections. This may include visual checks for any imperfections or inconsistencies in the coating, as well as testing for durability and adherence to specifications.
Finishing Touches: Finally, any necessary finishing touches are applied, such as reassembly of firearm components or additional coatings for added protection or aesthetics.
